Romantic Honeymoon Ideas

When planning a honeymoon many couples are seeking a romantic honeymoon destination to start their new lives together. Depending on the time of year, some couples may want to set out for the sun and others may prefer a winter break. Florida and the Caribbean are always popular destinations for honeymooners, whilst other couples enjoy city breaks and may perhaps choose Barcelona or Rome. But, if you’re looking for something a little further afield and that has lots to offer whatever the season, then the Great Ocean Road in Australia is well worth considering.

The Great Ocean Road runs along the coast between Torquay and Warrnambool in Victoria, Australia. It boasts some of the most stunning and spectacular scenery in the world and there is lots to see and do, whatever the time of year. If one of your romantic honeymoon ideas is to get up early and catch a sunrise together or maybe you prefer a sunset, then there’s nothing more spectacular than the sight of the 12 Apostles rising out of the Southern Ocean. These gigantic limestone rocks were formed by constant erosion of the mainland cliffs and turn from a dark, brooding colour to a brilliant and vivid yellow colour in full sun.

It’s always great to sample the local delicacies when on vacation, and a memorable dinner for two probably features as one of the most popular romantic honeymoon ideas. But why stop at dinner when there are special dining experience packages to be savoured which include a gourmet breakfast or a decadent high tea on the foreshore of one of the many small seaside villages.

It’s often tempting on a honeymoon to try and cram in lots of sight seeing and  present buying and before you know it the honeymoon is over and you both end up back home feeling just as exhausted as you were when you started. Well with the favourable exchange rates, you can afford to stay longer, and enjoy more of what The Great Ocean Road has to offer.

If you want a quiet, relaxing and romantic honeymoon, then Aireys Inlet may be the perfect place for you. Pristine beaches, a world famous Lighthouse and an intimacy found in few other Great Ocean Road towns.  Aireys Inlet isn’t like the larger towns. There’s a General store, a great Pub, a few eateries and a few clothing stores. Everything here is low key, personal and friendly.

Warrnambool is the beautiful seaside city that greets travellers at the end of the Great Ocean Road. It is the perfect destination if you’re looking for a slightly more urban experience. It’s a great place to spend a few days to really unwind and soak up the Coastal atmosphere before heading home. There is so much to do in this wonderful city that you could spend your entire honeymoon without leaving the city and immediate surrounds.
